LIGHT Safe Harbor teaches ordinary people to notice, to ask the question in plain words, and to stay until help arrives. Ninety minutes. Free. For parents, pastors, teachers, coaches, managers, friends.
If you are worried about someone, ask them directly whether they are thinking about suicide. Use the word. Asking does not put the idea in anyone's head; it tells them you can hear the answer.
Everyone at risk should have three people they can reach in one tap. Be one of them for someone. It takes ten minutes to learn the role.
Know your crisis line and the nearest human who can help, before you need them. Put the number in your phone today.
“Are you thinking about suicide?”
That sentence, said calmly and without flinching, is the single most useful thing you will learn here. Harbor Watch teaches you how to say it, what to do with the answer, and how to stay with someone until they are connected to help.
People who are thinking about suicide often describe being lost in every direction: no future they can see, a past that no longer feels like theirs, nothing inside, no one outside. The book of Job puts it in four lines. A harbor does not cure the storm. It is the place a person can be held safely until their bearings return. That is what this program builds: around every person at risk, a small harbor of trained people, a plan on their phone, and a light that stays on after the crisis passes.
The clinical side of the program, the 90-day Harbor Protocol, is delivered through WAYLIGHT and is under research validation. This site is the part everyone can do.
