You can reach a person right now.
Whatever brought you here, you do not have to sort it out alone tonight. Pick whichever of these feels possible.
If it helps, while you wait
- Tell one person where you are and how you are feeling. A text is enough.
- Put some distance and time between you and anything you have been thinking of using to hurt yourself. Ask someone to hold onto it for now.
- Breathe out longer than you breathe in, for one minute.
- Stay in the same room as another person, or on the phone with one, until the wave passes. Waves pass.
If you are worried about someone else
- Ask them directly: βAre you thinking about suicide?β
- Listen. Do not argue, minimize, or promise secrecy.
- Stay with them, in person or on the phone.
- Connect them to a crisis line or emergency services together, while you are still with them.
- Follow up tomorrow, and the day after.
